C2C: Grasmere to Patterdale

Woke at 6.45 am and immediately looked led at the weather update - it was definitely due to rain all morning, but opinion seemed to be divided on how heavily. We pondered whether to wait till late morning to miss the worst of it (with Sunday’s pelting rain and sideways wind fresh in our minds) but decided to press on. So, after a hearty breakfast, a swift tent-striking in the rain and a spell of dry room for the tents, we set off at about ten, an hour later than usual.

Taking the tent down in the rain!
As you can see from the pics, it was rainy. However, it was only light rain. The worst of the forecasts were wrong. The going was far easier than yesterday, as a lot of the path was level or paved with stones.

Getting lighter in the valley

We arrived at our campsite towards 3 o’clock. It’s at the bottom tip of Lake Ullswater, very scenic. The rain had stopped a few miles away and we had dried out quite well, so no dry room required.  We had a shower and a rest and then got the 6 o’clock bus to Glenridding to forage for dinner, and to shop for tomorrow’s breakfast and lunch. Had dinner in the Inn on the Lake - a bit too posh really, but we were unprepared to walk anywhere further away from the bus stop. Glenridding peaceful and pretty.
