SWCP: Cadgwith to Coverack

 

A lovely sunny day! We set off at about 10 and Laura and Mabel turned around at Kennack Sands. A few wild ponies were lording it up en route.

The path from Kennack Sands to Coverack was quite challenging - lots of up and down, mud, steep and slippery rocks, narrow and overgrown bits. It took longer than I expected.

I’ve now completed the whole of the South West Coast Path - well done, me! Hurrah and she’s a jolly good fellow! Ect ect.

SWCP: Mullion Cove to Cadgwith

  

Quite a long day today, on our feet from 10.30 till 6, and it was harder for Laura than for me because she was holding Mabel back a lot of the time, and didn’t have any walking poles either. Mabel is very strong! We stopped a couple of times to eat and enjoy the views. Got the 10 o’clock bus from just up the road, to near Mullion Cove, and managed not to get rained on today there was even a sunny interlude mid-afternoon. The Lizard peninsula is much nicer than I was expecting - none of the tacky commercialisation of Land’s End, and masses of spring wildflowers carpeting the slopes in blue, white, pink and yellow. Absolutely lovely.

SWCP: Porthleven to Mullion Cove

 

Laura drove us down to Cornwall - it took six hours, with just a half hour stop for Mabel and a coffee.

By the time we arrived, it was raining, but not too hard. Mabel was very excited by the rabbits just past Porthleven, and it was hard to hold her back. Laura turned round after an hour to walk back and get the car, and I forged on to Mullion Cove where she was going to pick me up. It took me another couple of hours. All quite nice scenery, but in a haze of rain.

I got quite damp despite my freshly re-waterproofed gore-tex coat. Why, oh why, do they never live up to the promises? 

Bit annoying that my down gilet got wet. Fortunately I didn’t feel cold as I was constantly on the move. It was only a 15 minute drive to our Airbnb, which is lovely. We cooked ourselves salmon for dinner. Better weather tomorrow, but it’s raining all night so there will be mud galore.

SWCP: Lulworth Cove to Kimmeridge

 

Finally, two and a half years after I turned up at the gate to the Lulworth military ranges only to find it closed for the day, I have completed the missed bit. First, though, I walked (again) from Osmington Mills, as that was the route being done by Laura, Alison and Angie.
