SDW: Winchester to Exton

Strava didn’t kick in for the first couple of miles, walking through Winchester.

Ah, the South Downs Way! I walked about 14 miles  today and I’ve got another 10 miles planned for tomorrow. A bit of prep for Tuscany in a week’s time. It was quite level today and there was a fair amount of tarmac, so I was walking relatively fast. It actually felt more tiring on the hips, knees and feet than the SWCP coastal paths where the ground is more varied and there’s more up and down. The terrain makes the walking very samey so you get a sort of RSI. There weren’t really any views to speak of today so it seemed like a long walk. I had soggy fish and oven chips for dinner in the pub where I’m staying. It’s nice and quiet in my room though. I don’t think there are many people staying tonight.

I had a bit of difficulty finding the SDW from Winchester station - was happy to see this first signpost. I only thought too late to ask ChatGPT.

Crossing the M3

Loads of beautiful houses along the route today.

Stopped for a cup of tea here. Don’t really have any lunch today, just a samosa bought from the market in Winchester. Mostly potato.

It’s been mostly farmland today.

Approaching Exton.

Exton is beautiful - full of gorgeous houses

Hurrah - I’ve arrived at my bed for the night!
